Treatment and Care
At Stony Brook Cancer Center, our multidisciplinary team works together to build a highly personalized treatment plan for your specific head and neck cancer.
Our experts collaborate closely to evaluate your needs and guide your care through three main treatment areas:
- Surgery: Our skilled surgeons focus on safely removing tumors while carefully preserving the tissues that allow you to speak, swallow and eat comfortably.
- Medical Oncology: We use powerful, targeted medicines like chemotherapy and immunotherapy to fight cancer cells. We often combine these drugs with other therapies to make your treatment as effective as possible.
- Radiation Oncology: Our radiation oncologists use highly precise energy beams to target and shrink tumors. This approach aggressively treats the disease while protecting the healthy tissue surrounding the cancer.
- Speech Pathology: Preventative and rehabilitative swallowing therapy services are available to improve quality of life for patients at risk or who present symptoms of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing).
By bringing these disciplines together, we ensure every part of your treatment works in harmony to give you the best possible outcome.
