If you or someone you care about has been diagnosed with cancer, you have our assurance that when you come to Stony Brook University Cancer Center, we’ll do everything we can to provide you with the most up-to-date and compassionate cancer care. To help make sure we stay at the forefront of cancer treatments, we regularly conduct advanced research in pursuit of safer, more effective, or better tolerated ways to treat our patients.

Through our dedicated staff in the Cancer Clinical Trials Office, we manage a robust clinical trials program. Clinical trials use volunteers who have cancer to help us discover cancer treatments that may be better than what is currently available. If you’re cancer-free, you may be able to participate in a clinical trial about how to prevent cancers in the first place or how to prevent cancers from spreading or coming back.

The fact is, almost every cancer treatment or medicine used today was discovered, tested and perfected in past clinical trials, performed in patients just like you, and conducted by researchers around the world.

At Stony Brook Cancer Center, your doctor will tell you about available clinical trials that may be appropriate for you. We have different types of trials that research many areas, including prevention; diagnostics; new medications and regimens; surgical, medical and radiation oncology; immunotherapy treatments; cancer’s recurrence and spread; survivorship; and palliative care. Of course, participating is totally voluntary.

Be assured that if you, or any of your family members or friends ever need us, we will be here to provide the most up-to-date, forward-looking cancer care treatments. If you want to know more or for information on participating in a cancer clinical trial, call us at (631) 638-1000 or email: cancerclinicaltrials@stonybrookmedicine.edu
