Cancer Care and Novel Research
Stony Brook Cancer Center is the overarching name that represents all cancer-related care, as well as all basic and translation, at Stony Brook Medicine.
The Cancer Center takes a team approach to cancer care. A health professional from various specialties is represented on each team. This typically involves a surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, and additional doctors, along with a nurse and social worker. All bring their expertise to form a collaborative plan of care for optimal treatment and recovery. You and your family members collaborate with the healthcare members to find the best way forward while you are being treated and during follow-up care.
Research is about finding answers. There are numerous research studies and projects dedicated to cancer being performed within Stony Brook University and Stony Brook Medicine. Through the efforts of our gifted physician-scientists, not only are we developing a better understanding of cancer, but we are making significant contributions to the field in developing new approaches to diagnosing and treating the disease.
