Medical Cancer Care
Most cancer patients meet with a medical oncologist to develop a personalized care plan. These specialists treat cancer using medications such as chemotherapy (oral or infusion), hormonal therapy and immunotherapy, which harnesses the body’s immune system to fight cancer. Their role is to manage and control the disease, address side effects, and, in some cases, achieve a cure.
At Stony Brook Cancer Center, our medical oncologists work closely with surgeons, radiation oncologists and other specialists as part of a collaborative care team. Together, they provide the most effective treatment tailored to each patient’s needs, with a commitment to compassionate, personalized care.
