Research Interest
The Seeliger Lab studies the basic biology and therapeutic applications of mycobacteria. Research centers on understanding cell envelope processes in mycobacteria, including human pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The lab investigates how these bacteria transport metabolites like lipids and proteins through the cell envelope to sustain survival and pathogenicity.
Building on this fundamental work, the lab applies insights into protein expression and secretion to develop new cancer therapies and vaccines. In collaboration with Manhattan BioSolutions, Inc., they are modifying the tuberculosis live vaccine strain BCG for use in cancer immunotherapy and vaccination against COVID-19.
