At Stony Brook’s Radiation Oncology Department, our focus is providing exceptional cancer care through advanced technology, innovative therapies and a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
Our multidisciplinary team collaborates to develop personalized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s unique needs. By utilizing cutting-edge techniques like intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and stereotactic therapies, we deliver precise, effective radiation while protecting healthy tissue. With state-of-the-art planning systems, our goal is to provide fast and efficient care that achieves the best outcomes with minimal side effects.

At Stony Brook Medicine, experienced radiation oncologists work with other members of the Radiation Oncology team to treat patients with cancer. Physics Team
The physics team ensures precision in every radiation treatment. This team includes board-certified medical physicists, dosimetrists and senior programmers, all experienced in advanced therapies such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), radiosurgery and brachytherapy. They are responsible for maintaining the integrity of radiation treatment machines and collaborating with physicians to plan each patient's treatment.

Radiation Therapists
Radiation therapists are certified radiotherapy technologists who deliver treatments as prescribed by oncologists. They utilize advanced, computerized systems to ensure accurate, effective and safe treatments. Radiation therapists monitor patients throughout their therapy and maintain detailed records.
Division of Nursing
The radiation oncology nursing team provides exceptional care before, during, and after treatment. Nurses are often the first point of contact, assisting with treatment coordination, symptom management and education. The team, which includes registered nurses, clinical assistants and clerks, is committed to delivering personalized care and providing follow-up support after treatment completion.
Administrative Director
The Department of Radiation Oncology is dedicated to combining advanced technology with a patient-centered environment that prioritizes comfort and well-being. The Administrative Director oversees daily clinic operations and ensures that patients receive comprehensive support throughout their treatment.
