Guest Speakers
This year, we welcome two outstanding guest speakers to the Research Retreat, Robert J. Gillies, PhD, and Ariosto Silva, PhD, from the Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida. There will also be featured short talks focusing on breast cancer biology, integrated genomics and therapeutics. As always, we hope this Research Retreat will serve as a platform to encourage discussion and foster collaborations between basic scientists and clinical researchers.

Dr. Robert J. Gillies is the vice-chair of Radiology and the director of the Experimental Imaging Program. Dr. Gillies is a leader in the field of radiomics, the high throughput extraction of large amounts of data from medical images. Dr. Gillies and colleagues have identified targetable cell surface receptors in pancreatic, melanoma and breast cancers. Dr. Gillies and colleagues have looked for single protein targets that discriminate tumors from normal tissue for homomultivalent ligands (hoMVLs) coupling to dyes or nanoparticles. Dr. Gillies and colleagues have identified hoMVL targets for breast cancer in lymph nodes. |

Dr. Ariosto Silva is a junior investigator in the Cancer Biology and Evolution Program at the Moffitt Cancer Center. He works with Drs. Gatenby and Gillies to study the evolution of tumor invasiveness and adaptive tumor microenvironment with work in breast cancer. Recently, his work has focused on high impact findings for multiple myeloma as a model system. |
