Expert care close to home. That’s what the Cancer Program at Stony Brook Medicine provides. But we also provide something else — a program based on the idea that cancer is more than a disease to be treated. It is life-encompassing and deserves individualized attention, expert coordination and a large dose of compassion. At Stony Brook Medicine this translates into efficient care, smooth processes, family involvement on the treatment team, a wide range of treatment choices tailored to the individual, and as little interruption to your day-to-day life as possible.
Stony Brook Cancer Center is pleased to offer such advanced capabilities. However, we are even more pleased that Suffolk County residents can receive quality cancer services close to home, where you can heal in your own community with your friends and family at your side
Individualized care for your unique needs
You will receive an individualized plan of care that takes into consideration not only your specific diagnosis but also your family history, lifestyle and general health. Treatment team members represent areas of expertise such as surgery, hematology/oncology, radiation oncology, pain management and nursing that best meet your unique needs.
Your own nurse navigator or coordinator
Because the complexity of cancer care services – from the sheer volume of appointments to the number of questions that can arise – can be overwhelming, you will be assigned a nurse navigator to guide you through the entire process. She is your advocate and your first point of contact.
Specialized expertise and latest treatment options
The Cancer Program is involved in bringing the latest medical advances to Suffolk County. You’ll find physicians performing groundbreaking procedures, surgeons proficient in robotic-assisted surgery and a comprehensive pediatric oncology program. As an academic medical center, Stony Brook is an internationally recognized hub of research and innovation, so you’ll have access to the most up-to-date protocols and interventions.
