Join Us at the Relay for Life of Smithtown

Stony Brook Cancer Center has taken part in National Cancer Survivors celebrations in June for two decades to show support for all those living with a history of cancer. For America’s more than 18 million cancer survivors, it is an opportunity to connect with one another, celebrate milestones, and recognize those who have supported them along the way.

For 2024, Stony Brook Cancer Center is joining with the American Cancer Society at the Relay For Life of Smithtown to celebrate its survivors. Community members and survivors’ families, friends and caregivers are coming together to take part in the event and show support to all involved. All are welcome to join us on Saturday, June 1 at 5 pm at Smithtown High School West.

According to the American Cancer Society, there are more than 2,500 Relay events around the country to support and celebrate survivors and caregivers. At Relay For Life events, no one faces cancer alone. Each Relay has special events and celebrate and support survivors and caregivers.

Although each Relay For Life event embraces the unique qualities of the community where it takes place, every event has the same four signature elements: a celebration of cancer survivors, a celebration of caregivers, a luminaria ceremony to honor and remember loved ones, and the opportunity to fight back against cancer.

The Relay For Life Event of Smithtown begins with a survivor reception. The survivor reception is followed by the first survivor lap around the track, which is lined with luminaria bags. All attendees of the event are asked to line the track during the survivor lap and cheer on the survivors. Caregivers of patients with cancer (currently or previously diagnosed) will then be invited to join the survivors. As it gets dark, the luminaria bags surrounding the track are lit in a memorable luminaria ceremony.

We hope to see you at the event on June 1. The survivor reception, event participation and parking are free.
