Research Interest

Dr. Sylvia Wood is a Clinical Associate Professor and Director of the PhD in Nursing Program at the Stony Brook School of Nursing. She has 35 years of experience in oncology nursing practice, with dual board certification as an advanced oncology nurse practitioner and adult nurse practitioner in the care of people with solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Her background, with a clinical doctorate in nursing practice and a PhD in Nursing, includes managing and supporting oncology clinical trial research in the community and hospital settings. Dr. Wood has worked locally and nationally with the Oncology Nursing Society on EBP/QI implementation projects to improve care delivery for oncology patients. Her oncology research interests are oriented from a holistic perspective, recognizing the bio-psycho-social-spiritual nature of the human health experience. Her research focuses on cancer survivorship in older adults to improve health outcomes, well-being, and quality of life.
