Research Interest
Our laboratory is focused on the design and translation of diagnostic and therapeutic nanomedicines. We primarily work on applications in cancer and kidney diseases, many of which are side effects of cancer treatments. Specifically, we have designed fluorescent nanosensors which can quantify concentrations of breast cancer biomarkers, inflammatory cytokines, or anti-tumor chemotherapeutics in live rodent models of disease. We anticipate translating these tools to the clinic as personalized implantable or bedside-use diagnostics or as research tools to improve disease biology and drug pharmacology. In addition, we have designed polymeric mesoscale nanoparticles which selectively target the kidneys. We are using these as delivery tools to treat chemotherapy- and surgery-induced kidney injury, chronic inflammatory kidney diseases, genetic kidney diseases, and kidney cancer.
