Awards & Recognition:
• Three abstracts will be selected as Short Talk Winners, and each winner is expected to submit a 5-minute PP presentation with 3 minutes for Q&A. The winner will be contacted via email and given the approved PP presentation template and is required to acknowledge receipt of the said email.

Short Talk PP Presentation Submission deadline: ____________(no Exceptions) Each Short Talk and Poster winner will receive the following awards: • Certificate • Photo that could be featured in SBCC website • $400 monetary gift towards a professional membership related to medicine

Scoring Guide for Original Research Abstract

Introduction:

1 – Explanation of the main topic

1 – Introduction of already existing data or literature

1 – Goal/hypothesis of the studies

Methods:

1 – Is the study design clearly described?

1 – Are sampling procedures adequately described, including inclusion and exclusion criteria?

1 - Are the statistical analyses the best that could have been used?

Results:

1 – Are results clearly presented?

1 – Are the issues of the experiments controlled appropriately?

1 – Are issues of reliability and validity of the measures addressed?

Conclusion/Clinical Relevance:

1 – Are conclusions clearly stated?

1 – How well do the data justify the conclusions?

1 – Is the clinical relevance presented?

Language:

1 – Clearly written and understandable

1 – Following the directions of submission

1 - Are unique abbreviations spelled out clearly the first time they are used?

Overall Impact:

1 - Does the abstract address an important problem?

1 - How was scientific knowledge advanced?

1 - Are the results and conclusions strong enough to influence how clinicians/teachers/researchers “act”; understand the basic mechanisms of health/disease; or provide health services or trainee education, conduct future research, or impact public policy?

Guide for Poster Case Report/Literature Review ● 3 minutes to present/ 1 minute Q&A) Grading:

Introduction:
1 – Explanation of the main topic

1 – Introduction of already existing data or literature

1 – Goal/hypothesis of the studies

Methods: 1 – Poor: The relevance of the history, exam, etc., is not well explained

2 – Good: relevance of history, exam, etc., explained but with gaps in thinking

3 – Excellent: relevance of history, exam, etc., thoroughly explained

Novelty/Originality:

1 – Commonly reported event. Of local interest only.

2 – Some originality. Been reported before, but has some unique features

3 - Highly unique case. Never previously reported

Relevance and completion of the case presentation or review

1 - The case is incomplete with missing data or extrapolation of data is beyond the scope of the presentation

2 - The case is complete and of some importance to clinical practice

3 - The case is complete and very relevant to clinical practice or describes a possible new pathogenesis or mechanism of treatment

Language:

1 – Written and understandable

1 – Following the directions of submission

1 - Are unique abbreviations spelled out clearly the first time they are used?

Importance of the message of a case report

1 - Minimal message and importance. Minor interest only

2 - Quite significant results. Of some importance to clinical practice

3 - Highly significant results. Shapes clinical practice
