2024 Research Symposium
Power in Unity, Success in Teamwork!

July 12, 2024
8 am to 4 pm

The Waterview at Port Jefferson Country Club

Building on our goal of enhancing collaborations between basic and clinical scientists, the symposium will feature presentations from last year’s awardees of the American Cancer Society — Internal Research Grants. In this session, we will learn about the exciting novel clinical and basic cancer research projects being developed by young clinicians and researchers at Stony Brook Cancer Center.

Furthermore, following in the spirit of getting to know more about each other’s scientific strengths and to identify common areas for new creative and impactful cancer research ideas, a prime focus of this year’s research will also be on the promising junior researchers presenting and discussing their posters alongside Stony Brook Cancer Center’s world-class oncologists. This year’s poster sessions will follow a dynamic new format, which includes brief 5-minutes presentations, working small group luncheons, awards for best presentations and seed funding to start developing promising new collaborative ideas conceived during the poster discussions.

The leaders of the Translational Initiative in Population Sciences (TIPS), Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) and of the Cancer Center Shared Resources will introduce the mission, progress and overview of their respective activities.

Finally, we are honored to be showcasing a taste of the research journey of Stony Brook Cancer Center Director, Yusuf A. Hannun, MD, and to learn how his collaborative and mentoring spirit has led to ground-breaking discoveries that have founded, shaped and moved the sphingolipid field to attain clinical breakthroughs in the cancer field and beyond.

We hope you will join us!
